Privacy and Cookies Policy

Introduction

I’ve put this privacy and cookies notice together with the intention of making it as clear as possible and easy to read. Privacy is not only important in our technology-based world, but it’s often overlooked. I believe that may be, in part, because some privacy policies and contracts are unnecessarily wordy.

This Privacy and Cookies policy applies to this website (scottcole.net).

As with any Privacy and Cookies policy, I recommend you have a read through this to make sure you’re happy with it.

Who am I?

I’m Scott Cole. I’m a Sole Trader. For any data that do collect, I am the data controller. Here’re my contact details.

Phone: 07765 906 925

Email: scott@scottcole.net

What information do I collect?

To be honest, I don’t collect much information. I believe in collecting only the information that is absolutely necessary.

At this time, the only information I collect is through my Contact Form on the contact page. As you may have seen, the information that I could collect is the information you enter (name, email address, phone number, subject matter of your communication, and your message itself).

How do I use that personal information?

As the only data I collect is through my contact form, I only use that information you provide through that form for the purposes of contacting you regarding the enquiry you make.

What legal basis do I have for processing your personal data?

For that information I collect through the contact form, I typically rely on the Legitimate Interest legal basis for processing that information so that I may respond to you.

When do I share personal data?

I don’t share personal data.

Where do I store and process personal data?

Any information you enter in my contact form is sent to me as an email. My emails are secure, and I routinely clear out my email inbox.

How do I secure personal data?

Regardless of the system I use, and whatever its purpose, I ensure I use secure and obscure passwords for access. Where possible, I also employ two factor authentications.

The website host I use (who handles my emails) is well known for their efforts in security, and their servers are located in the UK.

No one else has access to my emails.

How long do I keep your personal data for?

For any information you send to me via the contact form which is stored in my email inbox, I will keep for a maximum of 3 months following the end of our communications. If you would like me to remove the information you have sent to me within a shorter timescale, please get in touch and request I do so.

Your rights in relation to personal data

Under the GDPR, you have certain rights as a data subject over the data I hold on you.

You’re entitled to:

  • As for access/to see the personal data I hold on you.
  • Ask for it to be corrected or deleted.
  • Ask for the data I hold on you to be presented in a portable format.
  • Restrict the processing of the data you sent me via the contact form, and object to its further processing.
  • You may also lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (I’ve placed their contact details below)

Use of cookies and other technologies

I don’t currently use any cookies on my website. I like to keep things simple.

From time to time, I may decide to employ Google Analytics on my website. However, if I do so I will ensure your consent is obtained prior to Google Analytics setting any cookies or recording any pages you visit. This Privacy and Cookies Policy will also be updated if that becomes the case. Although, I don’t envision it happening very often, and certainly not on any permanent or long-term basis.

Linking to other websites / third party content

From time to time, I will link to external websites. For example, I may include a link to someone else’s website in a blog post.
